Hamilton lawyer suspended for misconduct

8:56 pm on 16 May 2013

A Hamilton lawyer has been suspended for two years after pleading guilty to professional misconduct.

Charles Fletcher was found to have aided Charles Hohepa, a sole trustee of the Peoples Worship in Freedom Mission (PWFM) trust, in misappropriating more than $250,000 of property belonging to it.

New Zealand Law Society executive director Christine Grice said it is very disappointing that Mr Fletcher's actions have placed an enduring blemish on his 37-year career as a lawyer.

Ms Grice said he only narrowly avoided being stuck off.
