Dunedin stadium opponents lodge appeal

Opponents of a new sports stadium in Dunedin have filed an appeal against a High Court decision allowing the project to go ahead.

Last month Justice Chisholm dismissed the injunction brought by Stop the Stadium, in the High Court at Christchurch.

The Stop the Stadium group vowed to continue the fight against the $198 million project.

The group has called for a review of the decision in the court of appeal.

It maintains the construction of the stadium is illegal under the Local Government Act.

Stop the Stadium says this is because the project had changed significantly from that provided for in the Dunedin City Council Long Term Plan.

The group's president, Bev Butler, says no date has been set for the case to be argued in front of Appeal Court judges in Wellington, but the group is hoping for an early hearing.

Dunedin City Council is confident the project will go ahead.
