Fish and Game may prosecute a man caught chasing swans from a power boat and shooting them with a shotgun.
Auckland/Waikato chief executive Ben Wilson says the swans were chased and shot from a motor boat on Lake Whangape near Te Kauwhata this week.
A man has been given an offence notice for his actions.
Mr Wilson said that when the swan shooting season finishes at the end of June, Fish & Game will decide whether to prosecute him under the Wildlife Act.
He said charges are likely, as shooting under power, using a vehicle or a boat, is a growing problem.
