Overnight travellers allowed back at Christchurch airport

6:10 am on 25 May 2013

Travellers were able to spend the night at Christchurch airport on Friday night for the first time in more than two weeks.

Passengers staying overnight at the airport had been asked to leave between midnight and 3.30am so refurbishments could be carried out.

The move led to some travellers spending the night outside in carparks or bus stops.

Chief operating officer Andy Lester said the refurbishments were sped-up so passengers could use the terminal again.

But only people with proof they are a passenger can now spend the night. People who can't prove they are a legitimate passenger will be asked to leave.
