Family First appealing deregistration decision

The Family First group is appealing against its deregistration by the Charities Registration Board in the High Court in Wellington.

Family First has been notified it will be deregistered from Monday.

National director Bob McCoskrie said the group's high profile on issues such as same-sex marriage and the anti-smacking bill made it a target.

He said decisions by the Registration Board appear to depend on the prevailing political views of the time and his organisation won't accept 'bullying and muzzling'.

Mr McCoskrie said Family First is asking for consistency because if a benchmark is to be applied to organisations, it needs to be applied across the board.
