Laniet Bain was planning to reveal to her family that she had been a prostitute and was having an incestuous relationship with her father, a High Court jury has been told.

The evidence was given by a woman who had lived in the same boarding house as Laniet Bain at the end of 1993, six months before Laniet Bain and four of her family members were killed.

The Crown says David Bain, 37, killed his parents Robin and Margaret and siblings Arawa, Laniet and Stephen at the family's house in Dunedin on 20 June 1994.

The defence argues Robin Bain was depressed and unstable and killed the family present in the house before shooting himself.

On Friday the witness, who has name suppression, told of the last conversation she had with Laniet Bain.

The woman said Laniet Bain told her that she had given up work as a sex worker and was planning to go home to blow the whistle on that work and the fact she was having an incestual relationship with her father.

The woman also told the court that Laniet Bain had spoken about a baby she had to a family friend in Papua New Guinea when she was 10 years old.
