An Auckland High Court jury has found a prostitute guilty of the murder of her lover

Dionne Neale, 39, stabbed Reece Shadbolt to death at his Parnell apartment on 6 February in 2007.

It took the jury seven hours to reach its verdict. As it was read out, members of Mr Shadbolt's and Neale's family burst into tears.

The Crown said Neale stabbed the victim nine times as he got out of the shower because she was angry and jealous that he was seeing other prostitutes and that their relationship was ending.

The defence said Mr Shadbolt's emotional and physical abuse drove her to stab him and she did not intend to kill him.

Neale will be sentenced in June.
