Police have cordoned off a property in the Wellington suburb of Kilbirnie after a man was stabbed on Tuesday night.
They say two men approached the property wearing masks and carrying a knife about 7pm. The pair demanded money and property and this led to an altercation inside the house.
During the struggle one of the occupants received minor wounds, while one of the intruders suffered multiple stab wounds.
The 23-year-old underwent surgery on Tuesday night and is in a serious but stable condition in Wellington Hospital.
