The lawyer for one of three men accused of raping a woman in Hamilton denies his client raped or even had sex with her.

Harvinder Singh, 22, Kamalijeet Singh, 27 and Summit Vermani, 26, are accused of raping a 19 year old woman at a flat in Lake Road in April 2011.

Lawyers have been giving closing arguments at the Hamilton High Court on Wednesday.

The Crown says while the woman acknowledges she was drunk, it was clear that she tried to resist. It says the men had sex with her on separate occasions that night.

Mr Vermani's lawyer, Russell Boot, says although his client asked the woman for sex, she refused and he accepted that.

Mr Boot told the jury the Crown's case has not reached the standard of being proved beyond reasonable doubt.

A fourth accused, Amir Chand, was discharged last Friday.
