Seahorse colony to be established in Nelson

1:09 pm on 1 June 2013

A trio of seahorses is now at Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology in Nelson, as part of a programme to set up a colony there.

They are being held at aquaculture facilities at the Cawthron Institute.

The seahorses were sourced from a salmon farm in the Marlborough Sounds, where they are often found feeding amongst the cages.

The institute hopes the seahorses will give its aquaculture students the chance to gain experience in hatching and rearing marine organisms.
