A fire at the Harvey Norman store in Porirua on Sunday afternoon flared up briefly again on Sunday night, but was rapidly brought under control.
The Fire Service said flames in the roof of the building were quickly extinguished.
The blaze needed about 50 firefighters to bring under control.
Fire safety officers have examined the building yesterday and security officers guarded the site overnight.
