Warning to watch speed on holiday roads

4:05 pm on 3 June 2013

Emergency services are crossing their fingers that the remarkably quiet weekend on the New Zealand's roads continues until Tuesday morning.

There were seven road deaths last Queen's Birthday weekend, but none so far this year.

Assistant Commissioner Dave Cliff said it is still too early to begin celebrating because people will begin to return home on Monday and speed is key to safety.

Police say the reduced speed tolerance of 4km/h over the speed limit will apply until 8am on Tuesday.
