Top six announced in violin competition

9:10 am on 4 June 2013

New Zealand violinist Natalie Lin is in the top six in the annual Michael Hill international violin competition after a gruelling overture in Queenstown.

She is only the second New Zealander to do so. The first, in 2003, was Natalia Lomeiko, who went on to win it.

Eighteen violinists from around the world performed in the initial rounds of competition in Queenstown over the weekend.

The six who go through to the semi-finals later this week in Auckland are: Ms Lin, Nikki Chooi and Boson Mo of Canada, Sarah Christian of Germany, Ioana Goicea of Romania and Wonyoung Jung of South Korea.

Three will go through to the final on Saturday.
