Police have called off a search for a plane reported to have gone into the sea off Oamaru.
They say members of the public reported seeing the plane go down about 3.15pm on Tuesday and there were numerous reports of a flare.
Two search and rescue helicopters and several boats searched the area, but police
say nothing has been found to indicate a crash and there have been no reports of missing aircraft.
The search has been stood down, however police are continuing inquiries.
