De Goldi takes top prize in book awards

Writer Kate de Goldi has won a top prize for children and young adult writing.

Her novel The 10pm Question won Book of the Year at the New Zealand Post Book Awards presented at a gala function in Auckland on Wednesday night.

The judges described the tale of Frankie Parsons and his eccentric family and friends as a book destined to become an enduring classic. It also won the Young Adult Fiction prize.

Other winners included Jack Lasenby's Old Drumble which took the Junior Fiction Award, Denis Wright who won Best First Book for Violence 101, and Sally Sutton and Brian Lovelock who won Best Picture Book for Roadworks.
