The Desert Road through the central North Island is now open again.
Black ice on State Highway 1 is now melted.
State Highway 4 through National Park is also open again. Seven large trucks were earlier trapped there by ice and snow.
Motorists are being advised that conditions could be slippery in some places.
In the South Island, extreme care is required due to snow on State Highway 1 from Waitati to Dunedin, State Highway 87 from Outram - Middlemarch, and on State Highway 8 over the Lindis Pass.
Chains are essential on State Highway 94 from Te Anau to Milford Sound.
