12:03 pm on 11 June 2013

A Kerikeri man who had bleach thrown in his face by two robbers, is having his eyes checked on Tuesday by a specialist.

The man who works for Northland Regional Council, was on his way to Whangarei on Monday morning in a council ute, when he was attacked.

He pulled over in a layby on State Highway 10, near the Oromahoe turnoff, to find out why the car following him was flashing its lights.

Two men assaulted him, took his cell phone and money and threw bleach in his eyes.

The man was taken to Kawakawa hospital, and later discharged.

The council said he is badly shaken and in some discomfort and is being offered counselling and medical help.
