Lotto sales are booming this week.

The Powerball jackpot hits $16 million on Saturday, while Big Wednesday has reached a record $16.7 million - the first time the two draws have been in a double jackpot.

New Zealand Lotteries says Powerball sales jumped more than 200,000 tickets and Big Wednesday ticket sales doubled to more than a million.

The biggest Powerball jackpot was $30 million which was split between six winners in October last year.

The Problem Gambling Foundation says the average Lucky Dip Powerball ticket has a 1:4 million chance of winning big.
