Call for electricity report to be shelved

An energy expert says a Commerce Commission report on the electricity industry should be shelved.

A report by the Commerce Commission issued on Thursday said Contact, Genesis, Meridian Energy and Mighty River Power used market power to increase their wholesale revenues by $4.3 billion over six years.

However, there was no breach of Section 36 of the Commerce Act.

The Government says the report reinforces the need for change.

But energy expert Alex Sundakov believes the commission's report fails to understand the industry and is a dangerous piece of work.
