Bravery award recipient for siege dies

A man who received a bravery medal for assisting a police officer under fire in the Jan Molenaar siege in Napier in 2009 has died.

Garry Fraser, 70, who received a New Zealand Bravery Award in 2011, helped one of the wounded officers and called 111 during the siege.

Mr Fraser was biking in North Carolina in the United States on Sunday when he had a heart attack.

His widow Judy said the family was arranging bring his body home.
