New boss appointed to Electoral Commission

8:47 pm on 25 May 2009

The Government has appointed former chief electoral officer David Henry to head the Electoral Commission for one year.

Mr Henry takes over as chief executive of the Electoral Commission from Helena Catt, who did not seek reappointment after five years in the job.

Justice Minister Simon Power says Mr Henry has wide experience of strategic and operational management in the public sector.

Mr Power says the appointment is for one year because the Government is considering a report on the structure of the electoral agencies.

The Electoral Commission conducts voter education and administers the rules for political parties covering donations, spending and advertising.
