Otago mine worker flown to hospital

The operator of Macraes Mine in Otago says a gold miner was sent to hospital after complaining of chest pains after being pressed up against a piece of equipment.

Oceana Gold spokesperson Darren Klinck said the man had been working underground at Fraser's Pit on Friday.

Mr Klinck said the miner was walking under his own steam but flown to Dunedin Hospital as he was experiencing chest pains and having trouble breathing.

The mine's health and safety division is investigating the incident and may stop work in that part of the mine, he said.
