A man has been charged with infecting three people with HIV in Auckland.

The 40 year old is to appear in Auckland District Court on Friday on three counts of infecting people with disease, and one count of attempted infecting with disease.

The police say the charges relate to three men who were 17, 24 and 26 when they were infected with the virus.

The fourth charge relates to a 31 year old man who was exposed to HIV.

The officer in charge of the investigation, Detective Sergeant Andy King, says the man has been sexually active in both Auckland and Wellington, with men and women.

He says if anyone has concerns regarding their health, they should contact their doctor as soon as possible.
