Special assembly follows school air gun incident

9:17 am on 29 May 2009

There will be a special assembly for students at Manurewa High School on Friday morning, after an air gun scare forced an emergency lockdown.

Three students were confronted by two men, one of whom was armed with what looked like a rifle, near the college on Thursday afternoon. Manurewa High was locked down for 45 minutes.

Principal Richard Thornton told Morning Report that the students had never seen the men before and the police have told him they believe it was a random incident.

As well as the assembly, Mr Thornton said letters will be sent home with students to help explain what happened.
