Lawyer files court action against ANZ

A lawyer leading a mass action against ANZ bank says he has filed the claim in a New Zealand court.

The case to claim back millions of dollars in bank fees is being brought by lawyer Andrew Hooker and Australian law firm Slater and Gordon on behalf of about 14,000 ANZ customers.

Mr Hooker says fees can be as much as $20 a time, but the cost to the bank is only a few cents.

He says he filed papers at the Auckland High Court on Tuesday afternoon in the name of three ANZ customers on behalf of everyone who has joined the action.

Mr Hooker says ANZ has 25 working days to file a response and expects the case to go before a judge within two or three months.
