Child transferred to Starship after fatal crash

A four-year-old boy who survived a crash in Waikato that killed four others, including his father and sister, has been flown to Auckland's Starship Hospital.

Lucan Ryder, 29, Monique Ryder, aged nine, and Patricia Matthews, 30, died after two cars collided on State Highway 30, 11km east of Benneydale on Saturday.

The name of the fourth person who died has not been issued.

The four-year-old survivor is in a critical but stable condition.

He was flown to Starship Hospital from Waikato Hospital on Sunday afternoon after bad weather prevented a flight on Saturday night.

His 10-year-old brother is also now in Starship Hospital in a stable condition.
