Police keeping open mind on elderly attacks

9:02 am on 26 June 2013

Police say it will take time to determine how many people are involved in a series of attacks on elderly people in Auckland, because there is so much evidence to process.

Eight elderly women have been attacked and or robbed across Auckland recently, seven in their own homes.

William Murphy, 36, who was arrested on Sunday, now faces 15 charges including kidnappings, indecent assault and aggravated robbery.

Detective Inspector Karyn Malthus told Morning Report that officers are investigating every offence which occurred during the series of attacks.

She said further arrests have not yet been ruled out.

She also said if someone arrives at the door claiming to be a police officer, people should check their Identification or call the police to check they are legitimate.
