DOC issues conservation strategies for comment

Plans that will shape how the Department of Conservation will manage conservation land, wildlife, cultural heritage and recreation for the next 10 years are now open for public submissions.

Draft conservation management strategies for Canterbury, Otago and Southland were drafted with help from Ngai Tahu, councils and recreation and tourism organisations.

DoC says the strategy is an important measure to halt the ongoing decline of New Zealand biodoversity and a one in 10 year opportunity for the public to have a say on major environment decisions.

Public submissions close in September.
