Centre to reassess search areas for missing yacht

The Rescue Coordination Centre says it will reassess its search areas after another day with no trace of a yacht missing off the North Island's West Coast.

Six Americans and one Briton were on board the Nina when it left Opua in the Bay of Islands for Newcastle in Australia on 29 May. It was last heard from on 4 June and grave fears are held for the crew's safety.

The Rescue Coordination Centre says a helicopter search of the coast as far south as New Plymouth on Saturday failed to locate the yacht or crew.

It says it will assess on Saturday night whether the yacht could have drifted further down the coastline.

A decision on whether to continue searching will be made on Sunday morning.

An aerial search on Friday also failed to find any trace of the yacht.
