Power is gradually being restored in Gisborne after much of the city was cut off on Saturday evening.
Lines company, Eastland Network, says about 80% of the city lost its electricity supply from 5.15pm - 6.30pm and it still doesn't know why.
The company says about 30% of the city is still without power and it does not know how long it will take to bring it back online.
The areas affected are Kaiti, Wainui Beach and Whangara.
