Skiing opens at Coronet Peak

9:48 am on 7 June 2009

Coronet Peak in Queenstown has opened with what it says is arguably the best snow conditions in 20 years.

The ski field opened on Saturday, attracting about 2000 skiers and snowboarders.

Manager Hamish McCrostie says there is a snow base of almost one metre on the upper mountain and half a metre on the lower mountain.

Mount Hutt has already opened in Canterbury. Most other skifields are expected to fully open later this month.
