Civil Defence budget cut in Auckland

2:31 pm on 8 June 2009

The Civil Defence and Emergency Management group for the Auckland region is cutting its budget by more than $200,000 next year.

The cut means some projects will be put on hold until the new Auckland super-city decides what to do with them.

Group chairman Derek Battersby says projects being put on hold include a public warning system for natural disasters and an electronic information database for their website.

He says planning for the region-wide warning system would have been put on hold anyway because the region is waiting to see whether the Government wants to implement a nationwide system.
