Car found as search for missing man continues

Police investigating the disappearance of a Hamilton man are focusing the inquiry on people who may have seen his car parked in a suburban street.

Piki Kingi, 38, was last seen refuelling his car at a service station in the suburb of Hillcrest on Wednesday.

The car has been found in Mansel Avenue in Hillcrest and police believe it may have been there since Wednesday.

Mr Kingi's disappearance and a serious assault at a house in Cobham Drive in Hamilton East last week are possibly linked, but police will not say how.

Police are appealing for anyone in the Mansel Avenue area who may have seen people coming or going from the vehicle, to contact them.

An examination of the house is continuing on Monday. Police say there is still a lot of work to be done to identify what took place and who was there at the time.

They say forensic specialists examined the house on Saturday and found evidence to indicate that a serious assault did take place.
