Officer injured after car clips vehicle

A female officer has been injured after a police car in South Auckland collided with another car after driving through a red traffic light.

A spokesperson for Counties-Manukau police says the crash happened at 1pm on Monday at the intersection of George Bolt Memorial Drive and Kirkbride Road.

The spokesperson says the police car was responding to an incident and was going through a red traffic light with its lights and sirens on when it clipped an oncoming car.

The female driver has been taken to hospital with suspected back injuries. Another officer in the car was not injured.

The female driver of the other car was not hurt. The serious crash unit is investigating the incident.
