Former fugitive William Stewart appeared in court on Wednesday facing about 70 charges, most relating to the three months spent on the run from police this year.
Stewart, 47, was remanded in custody following his appearance in Christchurch District Court.
He had previously been remanded for two weeks to find a lawyer.
On Wednesday, Stewart chose to represent himself at the hearing. He told Judge John Bisphan he had a lawyer but was still sorting out paperwork.
Stewart requested another two-week remand and told the court he planned to defend the charges.
The judge remanded him in custody to reappear on 8 July.
