Police have located two of the three overdue boats in the Auckland area.
They say the two boats were lost in the fog and were not in any danger, and they have no concern for the third vessel.
Earlier on Saturday fog at Auckland Airport forced the cancellation of at least 14 outbound domestic flights and 10 arrivals, though large planes travelling to and from Wellington and Christchurch continued as normal.
