A dispute between two men in a house in Westport led to an attack with a violin, followed by an armed offenders squad call-out.

A man at the house says he was threatened with a pistol on Sunday night, and grabbed his violin to protect himself.

Westport Senior Sergeant Geoff Scott says the man the hit the person who allegedly had a pistol three times on the head with a violin.

"It ruined the violin and has damaged, slightly, the other chap's head," he says

Police received a call about a pistol threat, and armed police went to the house, Mr Scott says. A man gave himself up about 1am on Monday.
