Major oil companies in New Zealand lowered fuel prices on Tuesday afternoon.

Shell, BP, Mobil and Chevron New Zealand, which markets the Caltex Brand, have cut their price of petrol by 4 cents to $1.63.9c a litre.

They have also reduced the cost of diesel by 3c to $1.07.9c a litre.

Shell says the price cut is due to a decrease in the cost of refined petrol.
