Magazine apologises for literary faux pas

The magazine Next has apologised for mistakenly naming a major winner in this year's Montana Book Awards.

In its August issue, the magazine describes the Wellington writer Kate De Goldi as the winner of the Montana Book of the Year award.

Ms De Goldi is a finalist in the Montana awards with her novel The 10pm Question, which took top prize this year at the New Zealand Post Book Awards.

The winners of the Montana Awards are not due to be announced for another fortnight.

The editor of Next, Brenda Ward, says the magazine doesn't have any inside information: it simply made an error during sub-editing. She says the magazine has apologised to New Zealand Book Publishers and Kate De Goldi for its mistake.
