The whanau of a New Zealand tourist killed in Jamaica last week say the official process to repatriate his body is progressing as fast as possible.

Tiki Hunia, 27, of Ngati Awa was shot last week while protecting his wife, Nickie-Jean, from a robber.

An uncle, Richard Hunia, has confirmed a tangihanga will be held on Ruaihona Marae at Te Teko in the Bay of Plenty with the burial at the Kokohinau Marae cemetery.

Nickie-Jean has been joined in Jamaica by her cousin Gina, Tiki's brother, Hurricane, and his uncle, Keld Hunia.

The whanau has established a trust fund with Westpac.
