Split over epilepsy funds

12:03 pm on 26 July 2009

The organisation which provides services for those with epilespy has severed its ties with a fundraising body because of a spat over where donations end up.

The board of Epilepsy New Zealand has passed a resolution to discontinue its working relationship with the Epilepsy Foundation.

Epilepsy NZ says it's concerned that donors were given the impression by the foundation that money raised in various branches would be put back into that area.

It says the foundation has received donations of almost $3 million over the past three years.

Of this amount: 75% went to the telemarketer, 22.5% went to managing the foundation's office and 2.5% went back to the branch in the area where the money was raised.

The Epilepsy Foundation rejects the claims.
