Children's therapy funding to continue, for now

1:22 pm on 14 August 2009

Education Minister Anne Tolley has announced funding for children currently receiving additional therapy at New Zealand schools will continue, reversing an earlier decision to cut the funding.

Ms Tolley says the change follows discussions with concerned families of children with special needs, schools and sector representatives.

She says some parents have children with very complex needs and the funding will continue for children already receiving services while they remain at their current school.

Anne Tolley says no new students will be eligible for additional therapy.

Total funding in the 2009/2010 year will be $2.5 million.
