Police have charged an 18-year-old with the murder of a teenager in Waikato.
The victim, Edward Ngatai-Emery, 18, became caught up in an altercation involving several people on 6 August and died on Friday during surgery in Hamilton.
He was one of two people stabbed during the fight.
Police say the 18-year-old man will appear in Hamilton District Court on Monday charged with murder and a range of other counts.
The say they hope the arrest will defuse tensions that have been growing in the city between two opposing groups.
They say they are happy for the sake of the victim's family and the community that an arrest has been made in a timely manner.
