Dan Carter kicked a last minute penalty to take the All Blacks to a thrilling 19-18 Tri-Nations win over Australia on Saturday, to retain the Bledisloe Cup.

Carter kicked the winning points about 90 seconds from full time.

New Zealand scored the only try of the game through replacement centre Ma'a Nonu.

Australia was ahead 12-3 at half time, and led for most of the match, with flyhalf Matt Giteau kicking six penalties.

Luke McAlister and Conrad Smith were injured during the victory and may be ruled out for the rest of the Tri-Nations series.

The All Blacks will play tests against South Africa in Hamilton on 12 September and the Wallabies on 19 September.
