The Defence Force is considering redeveloping the vacant Central Institute of Technology campus at Trentham in Upper Hutt.
The $110 million plan is in papers obtained under the Official Information Act by Rimutaka MP Chris Hipkins.
If the proposal goes ahead, several hundred Defence Force personnel including some from the Waiorou army base could be redeployed.
The Defence Force says it has been considering the option for the past year.
Mr Hipkins says he supports the proposal but is concerned about a possible plan to sell the site to a commercial company. The Defence Force would then lease it back.
