The Bank of New Zealand has shut down an internet scam attempting to extort customers' private account information.
An email was sent to hundreds of BNZ customers advising them to update their account preferences by entering their details using a link that directed them to a site overseas.
The site was taken down on Monday morning by the bank's fraud department.
BNZ head of fraud and security Mike Burn says the bank has a standard response to fishing scams of this kind, which is to contact the site's service provider.
Mr Burn says fishing is reasonably common.
