Five students from Mt Roskill Grammar in Auckland have been suspended following an attack on a student from another school.

A group of boys, aged 14 to 16, invaded a classroom at Lynfield College on Monday and assaulted the student in front of a teacher and his classmates.

A Lynfield College student was suspended on Wednesday.

Lynfield College principal Steve Bovaird says the student led the group to the classroom where the assault took place.

Mt Roskill Grammar principal Greg Watson says the Board of Trustees will decide next week if its students can return.

Eight youths have been referred to Police Youth Services in relation to the incident, three of them for aggravated assault and unlawfully being on a property.

It is believed the attack was racially motivated.
