Guilty plea over theft of Waiouru war medals

A man has pleaded guilty to a burglary charge in relation to the theft of more than 90 war medals from the Waiouru Army Museum.

The medals included nine Victoria Crosses and were stolen in December 2007.

They were safely returned in February after a reward of $300,000 was offered.

The man, 39, who has name suppression, appeared at the Auckland District Court on Thursday morning.

The judge suppressed all other details relating to the matter.
