Police in Wellington are investigating the death of a baby who died in hospital on Tuesday. She was aged 11 months.
Police say Teegan Tairao-Wichman, who was born 15 weeks premature, had been in hospital since May when she was admitted with a virus.
They say the results of a post-mortem will help them to determine the cause of her death, which could take several months.
Police say the investigation is being carried out on behalf of the coroner, which is normal practice in similar circumstances.
