The latest stage in a bid to make Auckland rival Wellington as a rail city has moved a step closer, with funding confirmed for a rail hub at New Lynn.

Funding of $100 million has been confirmed for the plans to transform the traditional industrial suburb. A new station described by some as a "mini-Britomart" is being built, while the Waitakere City Council is planning retail, residential and roading developments.
